A Sermon at Shandon UMC

I’m proud of my student, Smoke Kanipe, and his ministerial leadership. Here’s a sermon I preached at Smoke’s Shandon UMC in Columbia, S.C. last Sunday. My assigned text was Philippians 4:1-4, the theme for Shandon’s stewardship emphasis. Hope you will find it helpful as you think about disagreement and dissension in the church.

  1. “It is better to be in relationship than to be right”. Thank you for that, Doc! I so appreciate that your central conviction in so many of your messages and writing is that we Christians simply are a part of a different community than the surrounding culture, with different standards, values, and covenants. So it truly is our core value to protect relationship over rights, or being right. Best, Ken
